The past and now – what happened?
The roofing industry has gone through many changes in the last 20 years. Before, most Commercial Roofs consisted of Hot Tar and Gravel System which was the industry standard. Those days are long gone and Single Rubber and Synthetic Membrane Systems have replaced them. There are three types of membranes that are widely used in most single ply roofing applications. They are MB (Modified Bitumen), TPO (Thermoplastic polyolefin) and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer). These membranes are very different from each other in composition and Installation.
Since these membranes came on the market, it made it easy for anyone to start a roofing company. Tools required are at a minimum and the installation is relatively easy. The problem is there is still a fair amount of techniques required to install any of these roofing membranes correctly. These techniques are developed and acquired over several years. Most roofing companies will have a technician that specializes in one of these systems. EPDM Rubber system is the most widely used membrane by most contractors.
Below is a list of facts that shows why Modified Bitumen is superior above other roofing systems.
Three Types of Commercial Roofing Systems – Which is the best choice? This video above will show how tough this roofing system is and the ability to install on any Commercial Building with a flat roof. There is no need to remove old roofs. When you are confronted with the decision to have your roof done, most Roofing Contractors will suggest to remove the old existing roof or to install a so called “insulation” fiber board. All of that adds to the cost which is unnecessary. The system we use will outlast any other roofing system.
